Question: My son is possibly changing army posts. He is currently at Ft. Sam Houston, CO and may transfer to Ft. Drum, NY. We have family in Accord, NY and in Kingston. How far would he be from them?
A: Both Accord and Kingston are in Ulster County which is in the southeast corner of New York State - north of the New York City area and about one hour south of Albany, the state capital.
There are several ways to get there from Fort Drum. I estimate it is between 4 - 4 1/2 hours travel time.
The easiest would be via Route 81 south to Syracuse and pick up NYS Thruway (toll road) headed east to Albany and then south to the Kingston exit, # 19.
Or take Route 81 south to Binghamton to Route 17 then east across the bottom of New York State to the Wurtsboro area where you would pick up Rte 209 up to Accord.
There are daily flights from the Watertown airport to Albany Airport which is about hour, maybe a little more, from the Ulster County area.
