Question: We are a military family that will be arriving to Fort Drum this coming summer and we are looking for a Traditional Catholic School for our 3 children. We’ve already learned there’s many Catholic Schools to choose from in the area, however, we are looking for the one that’s Traditional and strong both is academics and Moral teachings. Do you have any recommendations?

A:

There are three Catholic schools in the Fort Drum region – several buildings but three“systems”. Each system offers traditional programs.

Immaculate Heart Central Schools are centered in Watertown.  It is the combined system of what once was a parish-based school program for elementary students.  That may be why you thought there were many schools. Some web information is still outdated in that regard. The high school has a long history of regional service.

Under the IHC umbrella , there is a pre-school program called St. John Bosco, an elementary school, intermediate level building, and a junior-senior high school. http://www.ihcschools.org/

Augustinian Academy located in Carthage serves students in grades Pre-K to 8th http://c-augustinian.org/

St. James Catholic School located in Gouverneur, NY is a Catholic elementary school for children in preschool through sixth grade.  http://stjamesgov.org/

Augustinian students often move on to IHC for high school.  Busing is available.

I’d recommend reviewing the websites and calling the schools.
